FAQ

ND 22 through Dickinson
Question:
Why does it take so long to work on the intersection of ND 22 and 12th St/Museum drive?
Answer:
The intersection has to be done ¼ at a time to keep it open.  Each ¼ takes about 1 week to do the removals and place the new concrete and then the concrete needs 1 week of cure time before it can be driven on.  Each of the 1/4s takes a total of two weeks, 8 weeks for the entire intersection.

Question:  What are you doing at the intersection of ND 22 and 12th St/Museum drive?
Answer:
We are increasing the radius of the intersection, making it easier for trucks to make turns.  Because of the larger intersection, new traffic signal standards are needed to reach out to where the signals need to be.  For the east and west bound traffic, there will be a dedicated left turn phase, which wasn’t there before.  Also, the new intersection will be concrete, which should last longer and need less maintenance.

Question: Why do you have to place the yellow things in the sidewalk at each intersection?
Answer:
These are called detectable warning panels and are required to be installed as part of the ADA requirements that we need to follow to receive federal funds.  They assist disabled people with navigating through the intersection.

Question:
Are there going to be traffic signals installed?
Answer:
There will be traffic signals installed at three intersections.  These intersections are at 34th Street, 33rd Street, and 32nd Street.

Question:  Is this project part of the Dickinson Bypass project?
Answer:
This is not part of the Dickinson Bypass project.  This project is to increase the capacity of ND 22 through the area just north of Dickinson that is rapidly expanding.  It will accommodate turning vehicles while allowing the through traffic to continue on.  The traffic signals will make it easier for vehicles to turn onto ND 22.
